The PSL scale, band by band
PSL is a strict scale. It runs from 1 to 8, not 1 to 10, it is centred on 4, and it weighs bone structure and harmony over grooming. That is why a PSL score comes in lower than a casual rating of the same face. Population shares below are the community's rough estimates.

How the test scores PSL
Four measurements are scored from 0 to 100 and combined: symmetry (35%), facial thirds (25%), facial fifths (25%) and golden ratio (15%). The composite maps to PSL so that an ordinary, balanced face lands around 4 and only unusually harmonious faces reach 6 and above. The 1 to 10 figure under the PSL score follows the conversion the community uses, where a PSL 4 reads as about 5.5 out of 10.

How the measurement works
The page loads a face landmark model into your browser and finds 478 points on the face: the corners and lids of the eyes, the brows, the bridge and base of the nose, the lips, the cheek edges, the jaw corners and the chin. It then levels the head, corrects for a small turn or a camera held above or below eye level, and measures distances and angles between those points. Every number is a ratio, so the size of the photo does not matter.
Nothing is uploaded. The model runs on your device, the photo stays on your device, and the result image you can save is drawn on your device. Close the page and nothing remains.
What moves a PSL score
Bone moves it. Symmetry, the three thirds, eye spacing and jaw width are set by the skull. The community calls these the hard part of a rating for a reason.
The photo moves it more than you think. A camera below the chin lengthens the lower third and widens the jaw. A camera held high shrinks the chin. A phone at arm's length with the wide lens pushes the nose out. A head turned ten degrees costs symmetry points. Fix the photo before reading anything into the number.
Soft tissue is invisible to a ruler. Fat under the jaw, skin, hair, brows, the eye area's expression and posture change how a face is perceived without moving a landmark much. They are exactly what a rater, or an AI that looks at the whole photo, adds.

How to get an accurate PSL score
- Camera at eye level, at arm's length or further. A low camera lengthens the chin and widens the jaw; a high camera shrinks them.
- Even light from the front. A window behind you or a lamp above you puts shadows exactly where the landmarks are.
- Face the camera straight on with a neutral expression, mouth closed, hair off the forehead.
- No filters, no beauty mode, no crop that cuts the chin or the ears.
- Use the same setup when you compare two photos. Different setups produce different numbers on the same face.

Is this PSL score test free?
Yes. The measurement runs in your browser from one photo with no signup, no email and no upload.
What is a good PSL score?
4 is average and most people measure between 3.5 and 5.5. A 5 is roughly the top 20 percent, a 6 roughly the top 5 percent. 7 and above is rare enough to be argued over.
Why is my PSL lower than my 1 to 10 rating?
Different scales. The 1 to 10 is generous and centred on 6; PSL runs 1 to 8 and is centred on 4. A PSL 5 is a 6 to 6.5 on the everyday scale.
Is the PSL test accurate?
It measures geometry precisely on a clear front-facing photo. It cannot see skin, hair or jaw definition, so it is a proportion score, not the whole rating. Camera height, distance and head angle move it, so compare photos taken the same way.
How is this different from the PSL rating calculator?
The calculator asks seven questions and estimates from your answers. This test measures a photo. Self-report runs generous, so the photo test usually comes in lower and is the better baseline.
Does it work for women?
Yes. The tier names are male-coded forum slang, but the measurements are the same for any face.
Is my photo stored?
No. It is measured on your device and never sent anywhere.
